Dear Ed;

I noticed you in learn_russian and saw that you had a Regina Spektor icon, and so I decided to see what you were like, and long story short, you seem pretty cool, so, umm... I'm adding you, and if you want to add me back, good, if no, that's okay, too.

Also, we go to the same school.

<3.
Greg

PS- I'm not a looker either.

Hehhe, You seem pretty cool too! We do go to the same school! Hey, what house are you in? I'm a hardcore Ravenclaw! I have the scarf and everything...
Your single interest is: pseudo-intellectual asides ? I feel we have much to discuss!

Eddus

p.s. consider yourself added!

I'm actually a Hufflepuff-- I've never been sorted differently, and though I don't agree totally, I must say it does seem to fit decently.
And yeah-- I can make a discussion on whether Kafka should be considered a Czech or German author (German, I say.) go on for at least half-an-hour, so don't worry-- few topics are undiscussable.

Greg

PS- Thanks

I really enjoyed your poem on the write_away community. You seem like an interesting fellow, and I think I'd like to be your lj-friend. So yeah, add me or some junk. Word.

You really do have the coolest interests!

Ahem. Yes. Am justing browsing around, asking random people what Keele University is like. What is it like?

*aww to your icon, firstly*

You have cool interests too, I have noticed!

So Keele university! I just graduated, so I suppose I'm in quite a good position to tell you what it's like. I really loved it there. Even amidst the hardships and bouts of horrible times. For example in my first year I was sharing with, like, 28 stinky rugby player-types, who couldn't cook and left the kitchen and bathroom in terrible states. I didn't really make friends with them. So I felt lonely and depressed and was afraid to go the kicthen lest someone would be there and I'd have to talk to them (I lost loads of weight in my first year because of this) BUT DESPITE THIS I still loved my frist year (just avoid Lindsay B block) Keele has an incredibly relaxed atmosphere, which helped me alot. I think it's all the trees, hills and squirrels. I'm so glad that I went there for three years, got very close to some incredible people, basically carved out my own little life there.
There are loads of societies that you can join and meet people, you'll meet loads of people on your course and in halls. You can go and have coffees in Chancellors Building and laugh at the bad art in the art gallery. Or go to some good gigs at the Union. Newcastle-Under-Lyme is alright for shopping and Hanley is good too (but you can always get the train to Manchter, which I recommend) there are good train links with the rest of the UK (I got home sick, so I went down to back home every now and again for weekends, no real hassle at all)

All in all, I would definitely recommend Keele. So much happened there, I can't really do it justice. It was immense.

Sorry this is so long, but I'm still quite sad about leaving and have enjoyed going through some of my memories! Hope you like it there! I added you, by the way, so hopefully I'll be able to re-live my Keele days through your updates!

regina spektor

Hi,
About a year ago you posted a song by Regina Spektor called 8th floor in the learn_russian community. I saved the post thinking I would return to it and check out some of her music since I liked the song. I have now found her music, thanks to you, but can't find that song! I'm dying to hear the song again. Could you send it to me? Or let me know where I could find it? It would be greatly appreciated. And thanks for turning me on to her in the first place :)

Re: regina spektor

Hello there!

What a lovely message to receive! I can't believe it was a year ago. After getting the russian transcription of those lyrics, I used to sing them in the shower over and over!

It's so wonderful, because that song really meant a lot to me, at that time it gave me a feeling of giddy freedom, immense optimism.

I'm still a huge Spektor-fan, but I haven't listened to this song in ages. But I'm so glad you've come and reminded me of it. Maybe I can listen and feel free as I did a year ago.

anyway, here it is on sendspace, I hope it's alright?

Sorry to go off on a bit of a rant. I guess I'm a little emotionally charged today.

But thank you for reminding me of what that song means. Long May Regina Reign !

Er, I should probably do some introduction as my LJ bio is a little impressionistic. Although I'm currently living in America I'm actually from Stamford, which is a small market town not far from Cambridge, but actually nearer Peterbourgh. I'm working at the Ohio State University as a postdoc in the chemistry dept. I tend to do more theory than experiment so I spend way too much time with computers. I orginally started writing the LJ thing as just a means of doing a lot of daft jokes that I wouldn't otherwise do without severely trying everyone's patience in real life, but I think it's impossible to avoid a little bit of personal angst creeping in, so there's a bit of that as well.

This is a nice intro, sorry if the mean message on this post put you off, I had a few completely strange people add me a while back. I'm in a village outside Hertford, Hertfordshire if you are familiar with it. I know Cambridge and Peterborough, a friend of mine was very nearly the poet laureate of Peterborough.

I can't say I've been to Ohio, sadly. I haven't actually ever been to America, which annoys me. Is it treating you well?

Anyway a quick thing on me: I'm finishing my MA in Creative and Life Writing from Goldsmiths in a few weeks and I'm currently looking for work. I do bring a lot of angst into my journal, but it's usually along the same themes, so once you've read one post, you needn't read any more.

Pleased to meet you!

this is sort of random, and i never do this, but i saw your comments in livejournal_uk in the recent post on sex/gender/orientation, and i liked your two cents. i'd like to be friends, as it seems we have a few things in common (queerness, a love for ukulele, etc).

What's your favourite ukulele tune?

hmm. favorite ukulele tune is a tough one. at the moment i'm really enjoying noah and the whale's "five years time," but that's probably not what you mean. haha. it's just pretty easy to play, which is nice, because i'm still a beginner.
